A live 3-session workshop for trauma therapists

The hardest part of going off a panel isn’t the decision. It’s not knowing if you can afford it.

Maybe you oscillate between an emotional response of “I’m getting off now” and decision paralysis. That’s what these three live sessions are for: to help you understand your income, model what one change would do to it, and know your contract, so whatever you decide, you’re ready. Then you make the call with your numbers in front of you.

The part nobody taught us

You know your clients. Your business is harder to see.

You can tell me what’s happening with a client after one session. But ask how much of your income comes from Headway, or how many days’ notice your Aetna contract requires, and most of us would be guessing.

That’s not a character flaw. Nobody taught us this part. We signed the contracts years ago, took the referrals, and got to work.

So when you start wondering about going off a panel or platform, the questions feel overwhelming:

  • What happens to my income?
  • Who stays?
  • How long will this take?

Without answers, the decision gets made for you. You stay because it feels too risky to look, or you leave after a bad week and hope the math works out.

You can make decisions about your own practice confidently.
The plan

Three sessions. By the end, you’ll understand your business.

1Your business model

See your business model.

I give you a spreadsheet where you enter your monthly income by source and see it as a pie chart: maybe 50% Headway, 10% Cigna, 10% Aetna, 30% private pay. Then four questions to sort out what’s right for you now: why you’re thinking about leaving, how much income is at risk, what a realistic timeline looks like, and how much risk you can take.

2One change

Model one change.

Model what it would be like to leave one panel or platform, and set your private pay rate. You’re not committing to anything. Estimate who would stay and how often they’d come, then see the worst case, the best case, and the most likely scenario, and what each does to your monthly income. Then you have a template for modeling other changes too.

3Your contract

Know your contract.

Use NotebookLM to find your notice period and obligations. Learn how going off a platform differs from going off an insurance panel directly, what to watch for, and how Medicare opt-out works. Then build an income plan, whether it’s one change by March or a plan for a slower change over the next few years.

How each session runs

90 minutes. The first hour is teaching, the last 30 minutes are live Q&A, so you get your specific situation answered.

Everything recorded

Can’t make one live? Every session is recorded and yours through January 31, 2027.

A note from Kristen

I had to learn this part of my business fast.

Five years into my trauma therapy practice, I was taking insurance and seeing a lot of clients to make ends meet. Then, between experiencing health challenges and needing to devote time to caregiving for my elderly parents, I needed to work fewer hours. I had to look hard at my own numbers, and they didn’t work.

I’d spent 20+ years in corporate and small business management before becoming a therapist, so I knew how to read the numbers. Most trauma therapists were never given that chance.

This workshop is the structure I wish every colleague had: not a recommendation, a way to see your own business clearly.

An honest gut-check

Is this the right fit?

This is for you if…

You’re on one or more panels or platforms (Headway, Alma, and similar) and you’ve been wondering whether it’s time to make some changes. Maybe you know you want to go off one, or maybe you’re just curious.

Probably not, if…

You’ve already left your panels and you’re looking for help setting your private pay rate or filling your caseload.

The outcome

What you’ll walk away with.

A clear picture of your business model and where your monthly income comes from

A model of one change, with best, worst, and most likely cases, and a template for modeling others

Your notice period and obligations, from your own contract

An understanding of how platform and direct-insurance exits differ

A plan that fits your timeline, whether it’s months or years

Confidence that whatever you decide, you decided it

The cost of not looking.

Staying where you are can be exactly right. So can leaving. What costs you is deciding without the information: staying another two years because you couldn’t see the numbers, or leaving fast and finding out what your contract required after the fact.
